A very Happy New Year to all Almond and Earn branch members.

Here we are, safely delivered from the stresses of the General Election (what a result for SNP!), and the excesses of Christmas and New Year.

If, like me, you are still hoovering up all the left over cheese, chocolates, and liquors, you are probably looking forward to a bit of SNP (Scottish National Party) activity to get the calories burned off!

No details of any Days of Action yet, but I’m sure following our first branch meeting of the year in February (details of which will be sent out nearer the time) there will be plans afoot.

I’m delighted to welcome the 3 new members who have joined our ranks following the successful election of John Nicolson as our MP for Ochil and South Perthshire, happily turning our constituency yellow again.

We look forward to meeting the 3 of you, and hope you will be able to join us at a meeting or social event soon.

John Nicolson will have his first Constituency Surgery in Muthill Village Hall on Saturday 11 January, from 11 am to 12 noon. If you, or anyone you know has a matter they would like to discuss with him, make sure to pop along for a chat.

And finally, also on the 11th the AUOB (All Under One Banner) Emergency March for Independence is taking place in Glasgow. Yes Perth City have filled two 49-seater buses to attend this event, and I am sure many other folk from our area will be making their way their on public transport, etc.

It had been intended that following the march, there would be a rally on Glasgow Green, with Keith Brown being the keynote speaker. Unfortunately, due to the weather forecast predicting high winds, this rally is not now going to take place; however, the march is going ahead.

Due to the adverse weather forecast we will not be taking the Almond and Earn Branch banner, so we can all group around the Yes Perth City one if you would like? Drop me an email to let me know if you are going, and if you are, take photos please. We can forward them on to our webmaster for the branch website, and I can upload them on to our branch Facebook page.

Hope everyone is well, and avoiding or recovering from the horrible flu/cold virus which has affected so many of us this winter.

All the best for now,

Carol Mair
